Prior Authorization Specialist/Credentialing Coordinator - 09/24/2024

The Prior Authorization Specialist is responsible for all aspects of the prior authorization process. Responsibilities include collecting all the necessary documentation, contacting the patient for additional information and completion of the required prior authorization in order to proceed with testing.  Complete, timely, and accurate identification and submission of prior and retro authorization requests to the payors. Interacts with patients and insurance companies, as necessary, to request information needed for prior authorizations.  Responsible for documenting account activity, updating patient and claim information as well as working proficiently in the EMR system ensuring all functionalities are utilized for the most efficient processing of claims. Provides the highest level of customer service to internal and external patients.

  • Obtain and initiate authorizations for multiple providers with a variety of insurance plans
  • Document approval/denials in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) 
  • Communication with insurance plans and being comfortable answering clinical questions about patient's medical history

The Credentialing Coordinator is responsible for assuring the proper credentialing and privileging of physicians, advanced practice providers, and other licensed medical professionals. The Credentialing Coordinator will maintain and ensure compliance for all licensures and appointments with state and governmental agencies and certifications for each Provider. The Credentialing Coordinator also tracks and ensures the completion of required continuing medical education courses/workshops.

Required Knowlege Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Previous work history in a medical setting 
  • Must have excellent phone skills and be comfortable spending extended time on the phone with insurance carriers

This is a full time benefit eligible position.  Monday - Friday.
