Local 10-Year-Old Donates to New Infusion Center
Letty Fryhling, daughter of Kyle and Risa Fryhling, became Mobridge Regional Health Care Foundation’s newest Builder Level donor this week after raising $1,350 for the hospital’s new infusion center. The infusion center, currently under construction, will include five infusion bays where local patients will be able to receive a variety of infusion therapies. With help from the new hospital pharmacy next door, the infusion center will be able to offer chemotherapy for the first time.
Letty, age 10, raised the funds selling lemonade, soft chocolate chip cookies (her grandma’s recipe), and pull-apart caramel buns outside her house the morning of July 4. She worked hard baking during the week leading up to the event. “Donating to the infusion center was completely Letty’s idea,” shared Risa, “One night over dinner earlier in June, Kyle and I were discussing how nice it would be to have chemotherapy treatments available locally—Letty must have been listening and took it to heart.”
Risa was diagnosed with breast cancer in May and currently travels to Bismarck for her chemotherapy treatment every three weeks. Despite currently being on the toughest chemotherapy drug in her plan, Risa often still feels good enough to go into work at the family’s business, KR Building Products. “I am trying to change some things up so the body aches and fatigue are easier, but for the most part I am working, and I have a great team at the store supporting me and ready to help anybody the best they can or take messages for me to get back to.”
She is quick to express gratitude for her lack of nausea and her amazing local support network. Her doctors are excited about how well she is responding to treatment, and everyone is hopeful that chemotherapy will be done in October. “We feel very positive that we will make it through this and come out better on the other end of this disease. I believe that everything happens for a reason and something good will come from all this,” she shared in a Facebook post earlier this month.
The team at Mobridge Regional Hospital and Clinics was humbled by the gift that Letty decided to make to the organization. “We are so thankful for Letty’s heartfelt donation,” shared John Ayoub, CEO of Mobridge Regional Hospital & Clinics, “It is easy to get caught up in worrying about a potential construction delay or meeting the next deadline, but stories like this one are a poignant reminder of what we are truly here to do at MRH&C and why this building and expansion project is worth the effort.”
