Float Pool RN - Internal Applicants Only

Job Title: Float Pool RN
Department: Nursing Services
Location: Mobridge Regional Hospital & Clinics

Position Summary:
The Float Pool Nurse provides flexible, high-quality nursing care across multiple departments, with a primary focus on outpatient services including Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Stress Testing, and Outpatient Infusion. This role supports inpatient units, including Medical/Surgical, Obstetrics and Emergency Department, as needed to ensure optimal patient care and staffing coverage. The Float RN maintains a broad skill set and competencies to safely adapt to varying patient populations and acuity levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver safe, patient-centered nursing care in outpatient areas including Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab, Stress Testing, and Outpatient Infusion
  • Administer outpatient infusions, injections, chemotherapy, and other prescribed therapies in accordance with provider orders
  • Conduct patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and document care accurately and timely
  • Perform ECG rhythm analysis and monitor cardiac responses during stress testing and cardiac/pulmonary rehabilitation sessions
  • Support and guide patients in exercise and fitness activities as part of cardiac/pulmonary rehabilitation programs. Utilize mechanical aptitude to safely operate and troubleshoot cardiac and monitoring equipment
  • Float to the Medical/Surgical unit, Obstetrics and Emergency Department as needed, maintaining competency and certifications in all care practices
  • Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards
  • Strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and the ability to work independently across various service areas in a rural healthcare environment
  • Excellent professional communication and patient education skills
  • All other duties as assigned

Work Schedule & Expectations:

  • Primarily scheduled in outpatient department
  • Required to float to inpatient units (Med/Surg, OB and ED) based on staffing needs and patient load
  • Participation in the inpatient weekend/holiday rotation is required

Communication:

  • Collaborate and communicate professionally with all interdisciplinary teams including in-house and outlying providers, therapists, pharmacists, and ancillary and clinical staff

Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of South Dakota or eligibility for licensure
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in an acute care setting
  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), ALSO, STABLE, NRP, TNCC
  • Ability to obtain ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy certification within 6 months of hire (provided by the facility)
  • Previous experience in outpatient infusion, OB, cardiac/pulmonary rehabilitation, medical/surgical nursing, and/or emergency care preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift as required for patient care activities
  • Capability to respond quickly in emergency situations
