Job Title: Clinical Education Coordinator

Position Summary
The Clinical Education Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering nursing education and clinical development initiatives across the organization. This role supports onboarding, orientation, competency validation, continuing education, certification tracking, and clinical partnerships with nursing schools. The Clinical Education Coordinator works collaboratively with nursing leadership to promote clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, staff development, and workforce growth initiatives.
This position also serves as the coordinator for the organization’s Clinical Enrichment Program and STEP Program and will assist in the development and implementation of simulation-based learning opportunities as the organization expands educational space and resources.
The Clinical Education Coordinator is expected to maintain clinical competency through scheduled bedside responsibilities, including every third weekend and every third holiday rotation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Education & Staff Development
- Coordinate and provide orientation and onboarding for all new nursing employees.
- Develop, organize, and implement ongoing clinical education programs for nursing staff.
- Facilitate competency validations, annual skills check-offs, mock codes, skills fairs, and other educational activities.
- Develop and maintain an annual education calendar and schedule of relevant educational topics.
- Collaborate with nursing leadership to identify educational needs and competency gaps.
- Assist with remediation and educational support plans as needed.
Clinical Programs & Certifications
- Facilitate and coordinate the Clinical Enrichment Program, including annual reporting requirements to the South Dakota Board of Nursing.
- Maintain and coordinate the STEP Program to support nursing staff growth and professional development.
- Monitor and coordinate required clinical certifications and renewal processes for staff, in collaboration with department managers.
- Maintain staff certification records in UKG in collaboration with Human Resources
- Provide or coordinate certification classes
Nursing School & Clinical Coordination
- Develop, nurture, and expand relationships with nursing schools and educational partners.
- Coordinate all nursing student clinical and preceptor opportunities throughout the organization.
- Ensure clinical affiliation agreements and agency contracts are current and compliant with regulatory guidelines.
- Serve as a liaison between the organization and nursing education programs.
Simulation & Clinical Excellence
- Assist in the development and implementation of a simulation-based education program.
- Support the integration of simulation learning into orientation, competency validation, mock codes, and ongoing staff education.
- Collaborate with nursing leadership to maximize use of educational and simulation space as organizational resources expand.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Maintain clinical competency and participate in direct patient care as assigned.
- Maintain required clinical documentation and standards of care.
Communication
- Collaborate and communicate professionally with all interdisciplinary teams and colleagues.
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of South Dakota.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience required.
- Previous leadership or staff development experience preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Required Certifications
Must possess or obtain within one year of hire:
BLS, ACLS, PALS, STABLE, TNCC, NRP, ALSO
Schedule Expectations
- Combination of office/administrative and clinical responsibilities.
- Approximately two office/administrative days per week.
- Participation in every third weekend and every third holiday rotation.
- Required to float to inpatient units (Med/Surg, OB and ED) based on staffing needs and patient load
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift as required for patient care activities
- Capability to respond quickly in emergency situations
