MRH&C joins forces with Selby community to open new clinic
Mobridge, SD (April 24, 2020) Mobridge Regional Hospital and Clinics (MRH&C) has some exciting news to share. The City of Selby reached out to MRH&C this past February to let us know that Avera would be pulling out of their community. The city was concerned with the options being discussed as a potential replacement and asked if we would be interested in taking over operations of their clinic. After careful consideration by our Board of Trustees and a significant amount of due diligence, the decision has been made to pursue this opportunity. We are creating a new clinic, the Selby Medical Clinic, to serve the community of Selby and surrounding area. We have reached an agreement with Clint Perman, PA-C, who will continue seeing patients in Selby as he has done for years. We are excited to have Clint, and the entire clinic staff, join our MRH&C team. We have reached an agreement with the City of Selby to lease the same building and are planning for a smooth transition. The plan is to begin to operate the clinic as soon as possible to ensure the community retains access to care and the staff remains employed. We will seek provider-based Rural Health Clinic status from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which is how we operate and run our three current clinics.
While we did not anticipate trying to complete this undertaking during a global pandemic, we are committed to maintaining access to high-quality healthcare within the Selby community. As there are still a lot of moving parts and pieces, it is premature to announce a start date at this time. The idea is to have as little disruption for healthcare options within the Selby community as possible. While the staff and provider will be employed starting May 1st, the clinic will not be open to see patients immediately as there is much training on the electronic medical record, staffing workflows, and other onboarding requirements that must be completed first. While we do not have an exact date available yet, we do not expect the clinic to be down long and look forward to having it open for patients by mid-May. It is anticipated that the clinic will continue to serve the community Monday through Thursday as has been past practice.
We feel this is an excellent opportunity for us to continue to grow and strengthen the relationship between Mobridge and Selby as we have also done through our relationship with the Walworth County Care Center. We believe this will be a win-win scenario for our broader community, the staff at the clinic, and our entire organization. We also acknowledge and thank Avera for working with us to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of care for the community for many years to come.
