Mobridge Regional Hospital and Clinics Announces First DAISY Award Recipient
Mobridge, SD — March 24, 2026 — Mobridge Regional Hospital and Clinics (MRH&C) is proud to recognize Kim Helm, RN, as the organization’s first recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

The DAISY Award is part of a national program established in 1999 to honor nurses who go above and beyond in providing compassionate, high-quality care. Created in memory of Patrick Barnes, who passed away from complications of the autoimmune disease ITP, the award recognizes the extraordinary care provided by the nurses who cared for him and the meaningful difference nurses make in the lives of patients and their families.
At MRH&C, nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and peers, with recipients selected by a committee. Award recipients receive a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, symbolizing the unique connection between nurses and those they care for.
As this is the first year of the program at MRH&C, three nurses were nominated: Kim Helm, Katie Rau, and Mynheer Gacho. “We take great pride in having received three nominations during this review period,” said Dixie Artz, RN, Nurse Manager. “It speaks to the incredible care and commitment our nurses show every day.”

Kim Helm has been a valued member of the MRH&C team for nearly 10 years and is known for her clinical expertise, compassion, and dedication to her patients and coworkers. She holds her Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) certification and serves as a Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) instructor, helping prepare other nurses to care for trauma patients.
In addition to her work in the Emergency Department, Kim is recognized for her willingness to assist wherever needed, including supporting the floor and operating room. Her commitment to teamwork and patient care has made a lasting impact on both patients and colleagues.
Community members are encouraged to participate in recognizing exceptional nursing care. Nomination forms are available at registration desks across MRH&C facilities, and nominations may also be submitted online through the DAISY Foundation website. If you have a nurse who has made a difference in your care or the care of a loved one, please consider submitting a nomination.
MRH&C is honored to recognize Kim Helm with this award and celebrates the dedication of all nursing staff who provide exceptional care to patients and families every day.
