MEDCO Pledges Up to $25,000 to Giving Tuesday Match
MEDCO Pledges Up to $25,000 in Giving Tuesday Match to MRHC Foundation
On South Dakota’s Day of Giving, Tuesday, December 2, donors will have an opportunity to double their impact at a transformational moment for our region’s healthcare. As the MRHC Foundation enters the final stretch of its 3-year Healthy Futures Capital Campaign, MEDCO is generously offering to match the first $25,000 in gifts received by local donors on Giving Tuesday.
All funds raised this year will help cover the costs of Mobridge Regional Hospital’s final phase in a multi-year building project designed to strengthen local access to healthcare for people across the region. The in-patient wing and new obstetrics department opened in 2024, the new infusion center and surgical department followed earlier this year. New donations will support ongoing work on the radiology department and new ER as well as an expanded clinic and specialty clinic, due for completion in 2026.
While across the country, large hospital systems are closing rural obstetrics units and consolidating specialty care in urban centers, our independent, rural hospital is focused on reducing barriers to receiving care locally and keeping high quality care available right here at home. “As one of the only independent hospitals left in South Dakota, we benefit both from local control and an incredible Medical Staff,” shared John J. Ayoub, CEO. “Our volunteer Board of Trustees understands what is at stake for our community and puts local people before profit when making decisions. This project helps ensure more rural patients have access to essential healthcare locally, saving them time and money while increasing safety.”
Mobridge Economic Development Corporation has a long history of supporting new and existing businesses with low-cost financing, but this is the first time they’ve participated in a matching donation. “The hospital is the largest employer in our community. It is an economic driver that brings highly skilled, good paying jobs to town and creates a community resource that makes Mobridge an attractive place to live for families and older adults,” shared Michele Harrison, Executive Director of MEDCO. “Our organization felt it was important to support their efforts to remain competitive and offer the highest quality care here in Mobridge.”
Donations made on or before December 2 at www.mobridgehospital.org/foundation, by mail, or in person will qualify for the match when it’s noted that they are for Giving Tuesday. “Whether you can give $25 or $2,500, every dollar will be doubled and put to work immediately,” promises Merkel. “This is one of the most impactful days of the year to support our local hospital.”
